評論藍迪斯新國富論中譯本

《新國富論》被如此形容：為什麼有些國家能得天獨厚，有驚人的成長？許多國家卻一直在貧窮中掙扎？答案就在這本重要的劃時代巨作中。基於《新國富論》的高知名度，也基於筆者過去撰寫大專教科書評論文章，卻招致黑函攻擊或行政干擾之事實，本研究針對《新國富論》中譯本的部分內容進行深度檢驗。透過對暢銷書錯誤翻譯內容的訂正，說明翻譯書籍的寬鬆校閱制度，不僅折損原作的精髓，也可能傳遞不完整的知識；本研究的間接目的是為喚起輿論注意對學術評論杯葛的行為，不僅違背憲法的學術自由精神，更導致放任學術舞弊者製造的錯誤訊息流通。

Why are some nations so rich? Why do they grow so dramatically? Why do some nations struggle to simply survive? Some say that Landes' book, The Wealth and Poverty of Nations, provides answers to these questions. Due to the book's high-profile, and following on from various anonymous assaults on my disclosure of cases of academic misconduct, this paper seeks to illustrate how an incorrect translation can convey erroneous information and mislead readers. Showing how the Chinese translation of this best seller contains considerable errors, this article gives examples of how shoddy translation practices not only distorts the core contents of the original work, but also circulates incomplete knowledge. Consequently, it is evident that any attempt to block academic criticism is detrimental to academic freedom and enhances the circulation of erroneous materials produced by certain academics.
