Sustained Natural Apophyseal Glides in the Treatment of Spinal Disorders

Sustained Natural Apophyseal Glides (SNAGS) is a maneuver that involves a sustained facet glide with active motion that restores the original natural movement of the spine. SNAGS can be applied for the treatment of disorders of the cervical, thoracic, lumbar, costovertebral, and sacroiliac spinal joints. It has proven clinical efficacy and is easy to learn and perform. SNAGS is an effective and completely new treatment method that can be performed while the patient is a weight-loaded position sitting upright. The maneuver entails having the patient engage in active motion as the practitioner passively applies a sliding force continuously and parallel to the pain-free limit of the affected joints followed by the application of pressure. This maneuver will increase the amount of joint mobility. When performing SNAGS the practitioner must apply the facet joint mobilization along the plane of treatment. If this maneuver is done correctly for the treatment of the appropriate pathoconditions it will effectively relieve pain. This maneuver directly treats limited joint mobility and the patient receives immediate pain relief.
