智慧型手機螢幕大小與使用者拇指長度對注音輸入之影響

The Effect of Smartphone Screen Size and User's Thumb Length on Text Entry using Zhuyin Keyboard

摘要


在台灣智慧型手機持有率將近九成,民眾每日使用手機的時間高達5小時,其中又以即時通訊軟體的使用率最高。在發文字訊息時,注音輸入是台灣民眾最熟悉的。若以雙拇指點按鍵盤,螢幕太大時可能會影響輸入效率。雖然曾有研究提出最佳化的注音字鍵排列方式,但傳統注音鍵盤的排列方式已被大多數人所熟悉,至今仍被大多數人所使用。本研究主要目的是要分析智慧型手機螢幕大小與使用者拇指長度對注音輸入之影響。參與者依拇指長度分為大於等於平均的較長組與小於平均的較短組,使用兩種螢幕大小之手機,以傳統配置之注音鍵盤輸入兩篇不同內容之文章,並觀察其雙手拇指在鍵盤上之分佈與記錄其輸入錯誤百分率。輸入實驗的過程中觀察到,慣用右手者的右拇指負責了鍵盤右側近六成的注音字鍵,但左拇指有偶爾伸至最右側去點按的情形。變異數分析結果顯示,螢幕大小*拇指長度分組之交互作用達顯著水準。事後檢定結果顯示,在使用大螢幕的情況下,拇指長度較短組之輸入錯誤百分率顯著的優於拇指長度較長組的。另外,拇指長度較長組的參與者,其小螢幕之輸入錯誤百分率顯著的優於大螢幕。

Smartphone penetration rate in Taiwan was estimated to have almost reached ninety percent. Citizens generally spent about five hours on their phones every day, and instant messaging software was the most frequently used. When texting Chinese word, using Zhuyin keyboard was the most preferred option for Taiwan citizens. When texting by two thumbs, text entry efficiency might be disadvantaged by the width of phone screen. Optimal layout keyboard for Zhuyin entry had been researched and suggested. However, traditional layout keyboard for Zhuyin entry was still popular. The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of smartphone screen size and user's thumb length on text entry using traditional Zhuyin Keyboard. Nineteen right-handed participants was divided by their mean thumb length into shorter and longer groups. Using two different screen size smartphones to input two different articles by Zhuyin Keyboard, the distribution on keyboard of two thumbs and entry error rate was recorded. By the observation from experiment process, averagely about sixty percent right side keys of Zhuyin Keyboard were mostly clicked by right thumb. And the far right side keys of Zhuyin Keyboard clicked by left thumb was occasionally observed. The result of analysis of variance showed that the interaction of screen sizes and thumb length groups was significant. Post hoc test showed that when using larger screen smartphone, the entry error rate of shorter-thumb-length group was better than that of longer-thumb-length group. And for longer-thumb-length group, the entry error rate of using smaller screen smartphone was better than that of using larger screen smartphone.
