Chinese Ceramics and Related Wares Excavated in Some Sites of the Indonesian World

摘要

Very early, the Indonesian archipelago, and the Malay world at large, became a key market, for the exports of Far Eastern ceramics. This area did not have a similar production of its own. But the main reason was commercial. Indonesia is located on the maritime trade which links the Islamic countries of the Middle East and India to China. It was also a major producer and exporter of highly priced commodities for which the ceramics were indeed one of the most usual instruments of payment, not only used by the traders of the countries producing these ceramics (China, Vietnam, Siam) but also by other countries merchants such as Arabs, Indians or Persians. During the recent past years, a certain number of prospections as well as archaeological excavations have provided a large corpus of the different types of imported ceramics over the centuries.
