This study demonstrates the rapid development of a hinge quasi metal part using computer-aided design (CAD), rapid prototyping (RP), and rapid tooling technology (RP). The hinge was designed with 3D CAD software. In order to reduce the lead time and development cost, RP was used to manufacture hinge prototype for making silicone rubber mold using RT technology. The hinge metal part was successfully fabricated with a relatively short lead time and lower development costs. This process provides the engineers with a quick way to fabricate metal parts and modify the designs easily. Also, this process provides a practical way to fabricate metal parts and saves the development costs and time for increasing market competition.
