Using Translated Chinese Songs to Enhance Technological Students' Learning of Vocabulary

運用英譯中文歌曲以提升技職生字彙學習之成效

摘要


本研究生之主旨在探討如何運用中文歌曲來提升技職生學習英語字彙之成效。實驗對象為北台灣一所科技大學妝管系二年級的學生。他們依指示自由分組。每組要翻譯一至二首的中文歌曲,並於期末繳交個人研究心得。課中研究者示範如何簡譯中文歌曲來學習英語字彙。研究結果顯示,實驗對象相當喜歡此一專題,且覺得有助於其英語字彙之學習。

The purpose of this study is to explore the possible use of translated Chinese songs in English class to help enhance technological students' learning of vocabulary. Forty cosmetics management major sophomores from a technological university in northern Taiwan participated in this study. The researcher demonstrated the targeted vocabulary words by translating Chinese songs into English. Besides, the subjects were first asked to form groups and then to partially translate at least one self-selected Chinese songs with the targeted vocabulary words in them and to report their reflections individually about the group project at the end of the semester. Besides, they were encouraged to vocally perform their completed song translations for extra credit. The results showed that the subjects enjoyed the way the researcher taught English as well as their group project. They also indicated that they learned vocabulary better.
