Hexaméron is a set of variations based on the march theme from Bellini's I Puritani, with a variation each contributed by Thalberg, Liszt, Pixis, Herz, Czerny and Chopin- six of the leading pianists in Paris during the 1830's. Liszt shaped the contributions into a coherent. This work reflects the significant influence of salon culture at that time, especially on the virtuosic style of piano works. Besides talking about the general background and the environmental changes, this article provides further insight on this special work's place and value in history.
