Regular exercises are thought necessary for health promotion and disease prevention. Numerous prior studies have provided evidence that both physical and mental health benefits can be gained from moderate regular exercise. Despite the positive relationships between exercise and the physiological and psychological benefits have been evidenced, only a small percentage of people participate in regular physical activities. This study thus proposes a sport behavior model originated from Ajzen's (1985) theory of planned behavior (TPB) to understand the determinants of exercise behavior of college and university teachers. Data were collected from the college and university teachers in Taiwan. Structure Equation Model analysis indicates that intention toward regular exercise predicts teachers' exercise behaviors whereas perceived behavioral control do not. Perceived behavioral control and subject norms predict exercise intention whereas attitudes toward exercise behaviors do not. The results only partially support the TPB and the variances of intention and behavior toward regular exercise have much unexplained, thus suggesting further theory refinements of TPB.
