In this paper, I analyze the meanings and usages of the words which originated in the "Shi (世) word family" and "Ye (枼) word family" respectively in archaic Chinese books, and differentiate their semantic evolution. The Shi (世) word family has the common semantics of traction and elongation. The Ye (枼) word family has the common semantics of thinness. However, there are also a few words that use "枼" as a part of glyph whereas their semantics are relatively similar to the word family of "Shi (世)". Shi (世) and Ye (枼) have a very close historical phonological relationship.
