The characteristics of volleyball include a fast-paced game where players need to respond instantaneously to actual situations and perform high-frequency horizontal and vertical movements, jumps, and changes of direction (COD). Purposes: This study aims to explore the relationship between dynamic lower limb strength performance during COD and countermovement jump (CMJ) in collegiate male volleyball players. Methods: Twenty male volleyball players (age: 20.05 ± 1.28 years; height: 184.57 ± 9.87 cm; weight: 76.33 ± 9.44 kg) sequentially underwent countermovement jump (CMJ) and COD tests. The CMJ recorded their kinematic and kinetic parameters; the COD test used a 5-10-5 agility test with a light reaction and timing system, indicating random left and right direction starts, recording their split time and total times. Results: The completion time of the COD showed a moderate to high significant negative correlation with the relative mean force (r = -.508, p < .05) and the relative mean power (r = -.494, p < .05) of the CMJ. Discussion: This study demonstrates that the strength and power of lower limb dynamic indicators are related to the COD in volleyball athletes. Better performance in relative lower limb strength and power is beneficial for the agility and COD ability of volleyball athletes.
