摘要

本文的論點是以花東縱谷的起源點為出發，目的在探討赤山萬金一帶馬卡道族的生活史。作為銜接花東縱谷與海岸山脈族群的母親，以便更進一步往前為花東平埔族群作更多的努力與貢獻。從事田野調查工作，讓我知道知識的獲得不再是屬於一個人的成績，感謝眾人的付出才有這篇論文的呈現。此外，前人的成果與文獻資料的運用都是這篇論文不可獲缺的泉源。而赤山萬金一帶之生活樣貌，也絕不僅止於這些。還有更多未發掘之生活史仍然豐富、鮮活，期待有更多的表現在未來。

The Ma-katao tribe are the forefathers of many people living in the East Rify Valley of Taiwan. The purpose of this essay is to first make an investigation on the Ma-ka-tao's lives in Chi-shan and Wan-chin areas and then use it as the base for further study on the Ma-ka-tao people in the Rify Valley district. Years of field research has made me realize that whatever findings unearthed and obtained are the results of the contributions made by lots of people. This essay is a perfect example of it. Thanks to those who are more than willing to provide me with their findings. They have helped mde this essay possible! The Ma-ka-tao People in Chi-shan and Wan-chin areas have long led a life full of numerous colors. I am certain in the future a lot will be found and many more culture-related findings will be unearthed.
