A Review of Using Technology to Support Value Engineering Study

摘要

This study provides a review of the development of technology-based tools to support Value Engineering (VE) which have been developed over the recent years. The information presented in the study is based on a literature review of VE practice between 2008-2020. This research is intended to provide information to construction management academics and practitioners on the evolution of VE practice in today's construction industry. It is found that there are seven key VE technologies developed to help make VE studies easier and faster, namely; VE-KMS, RETRIEVE, Fuzzy CBR, ELECTRE III, GDSS, iVMi, and BIM-based Idea Bank. Each tool developed was intended to support VE teams to obtain the best possible results of VE studies (VES). Each tool helps with aspects such as decision making, using learning from previous studies, visualization, connecting remote teams and integrations with other value delivery methods. As construction projects become larger and more complex, the role of technology in VES becomes increasingly important to ensure VE remains a relevant and valuable tool.
