摘要

人類從事傳播活動時，必須透過許多不同的符碼（code）裝載意義，以達成溝通的目的。而研究是什麼使得文字、圖像或聲音能變成訊息以用來傳達，可以從研究符號學（semiotics or semiology）著手。符號學領域，近幾十年來，有愈來愈多人投入研究的趨勢，從符號語言學出發，慢慢的有研究學者將這門理論，應用在不同的研究領域上，如攝影、音樂等傳播藝術，為藝術解讀提供了理論分析的方法。本研究旨在探討符號學的相關論述，透過文獻資料整理與研究，提出符號學理論應用於視覺傳達設計表現的可能性。研究設計分成二階段進行，第一階段採用文獻調查法，綜合文獻整理，提出有關符號學的各種論述與比較。第二階段採用索緒爾（Ferdinand de Saussure）符號理論，應用於「台南意象」海報的實驗操作。透過理論來操作設計，期望得到新的思考與不同的設計方法。

For present purpose of communication, codes on symbols are the central importance in understanding man and his communication. Semiotics is regarded as how the language, pictures and voice can be communicated by using of codes Semiotic has its goal which is a theory of signs in all forms, today extensive fields have in many other areas by photography, music and communication art. This study is focusing on the collection of the important components in semiotics from all the related theory, paper and journals. Also approaching to the possibility of applying semiotic in to visual communication design. Two stages are included in this study, first one is adopting from documented survey research, and combing with all the collection to come out different description and comparison of semiotics. Second stage is dedicated on the experimental research by using the theory of Ferdinand de Saussure into poster of ”'Tainan Image”. AII the purpose is pursuing a new idea and a different design solution thru some theory applicaton.
