The objects of the research included 152 male freshmen and 386 female freshmen of the National Hsinchu Teachers College for the year of 1999. Items of the test included the body mass index (BMI), one minute sit ups, sit and reach forward, standing long jump, and cardiorespiratory endurance. The conclusion is as follows.1.For male freshmen there wasn’t any significant correlation between BMI and abdominal muscular strength, abdominal muscular endurance, anaerobic power, cardiorespiratory endurance.2.For female freshmen BMI had significant negative correlation with standing long jump(P <.05). It indicated that the bigger BMI, the worse anaerobic power. Further, BMI had significant positive correlation with completion of the 800-m run (P < .05). It also showed that the bigger BMI, the worse cardiorespiratory endurance.3.For abdominal muscular strength, abdominal muscular endurance, flexibility, anaerobic power, and cardiorespiratory endurance there was significant correlation in-between (P < .05) except flexibility and cardiorespiratory endurance. Besides, the result between male and female freshmen was identical.
