摘要

蔣維喬是民國時期佛教界中有名的居士，他生在常州，長期住在上海。在其一生中，有兩次因擔任公職，而分別到北京（1917–1922）和南京（1922–1928）居住。不管他在上海，或者是北京、南京，蔣維喬都與當地佛教界有密切的關係。本文所要探討的是：1916–1922年蔣維喬到北京任職教育部這段期間所從事與佛教有關的種種活動，本文主要根據中華書局在2014年11月出版的《蔣維喬日記》撰成，全文分別從：蔣維喬在北京結交的佛友、參與講經活動、閱讀佛教經論與讀誦佛教經典、旁通「外學」等項，逐一展開論述，希望能夠描繪出他在這幾年所從事的佛教活動。蔣維喬自己說，「余向者專致力於學術」，綜觀其一生，在佛教義理研究上用力極深，他在北京停留的近5年期間，對佛教經論頗下功夫，也結交了多位學佛的同參道友， 又能將佛法落實在日常生活上， 他可以說是近代佛門中的「模範居士」。

Mr. Jiang Weiqiao is a noted lay Buddhist in Republican Chinese Buddhist circle. He was born in Changzhou but spent most of his time in Shanghai. He maintained very close relations with Buddhist circles in Beijing, Nanjing and Shanghai. This article explores his Buddhism-related activities while he served in the Ministry of Education in Beijing between 1916 and 1922. Based on his personal diary published in November 2014, this article examines the following aspects and constructs a clearly portrait of Jiang's Buddhist activities in the aforementioned time frame: Jiang Weiqiao's association with Buddhist associates in Beijing; his participation in the preaching of Buddhist sutras; his reading and chanting of Buddhist canons; and his comprehension of other religious studies. An overall view of is life leads us to understand his deep devotion to Buddhist thoughts, especially the five years he spent in Beijing, when he engaged in thorough investigation of Buddhist sutras and making various Buddhist companions. He was a person truly capable of practicing Buddhism and incorporating it into his daily life. Jiang Weiqiao can be regarded as a role model in modern Chinese Buddhism.
