The 12-year national curriculum in Taiwan advocates for the cultivation of students' innovative thinking and practical abilities, aiming for them to become responsible citizens with social awareness. The development of leadership and creativity among students can be achieved through competency-based instructional design and implementation. Curriculum design should shift from traditional subject knowledge or skills to context-based integration, emphasizing the process and methods of learning, as well as application and practice. Through such instructional approaches, students can continuously develop their leadership and creativity through problem-solving, innovative thinking, and leadership practices. Furthermore, contextualized and problem-oriented instruction should be emphasized in curriculum design, enabling students to exercise creative and critical thinking skills while solving problems, and applying their learning to real-life challenges and future endeavors. Gifted education can help students develop social engagement abilities through social participation practices. Through social engagement practices, students can actively participate in community affairs and learn about the importance of social participation, thus fostering civic literacy. Additionally, students can enhance their understanding and acceptance of diverse ethnic groups and cultures, thereby achieving the goals of social connection and mutual benefit. Moreover, in the process of solving real-world problems, students can develop creative and critical thinking skills, independent thinking, and decision-making abilities, thus fostering self-directed learning and self-actualization. This paper introduces how social engagement practices in gifted education can cultivate students' core competencies, making them modern citizens with lifelong learning skills, social awareness, and an international perspective.
