In this article, the authors reviewed the literature about the construct of forgiveness and its measurement in psychology during 30 years. Research on the psychology of forgiveness began around 1990s, and western researchers had begun the studies early than Chinese researchers for about 10 years, due to the fact that the concept of "forgiveness" had belonged to Western religion domain in early time. In the traditional Chinese culture, the word Shu (恕) has already appeared for a long time, but from the psychological perspective, forgiveness is different from Shu. During this 30 years, the researchers gradually started to pay more attention to different dimension of forgiveness, including forgiveness of others, self-forgiveness, seek forgiveness as well as Multidimensional forgiveness. In short, western forgiveness construct and measurement development were reviewed, and then the forgiveness studies in Chinese society. Finally, we gave suggestions for the future studies.
