摘要

臺中區農業改良場的前身為日治時期的臺中州立農事試驗場，依臺中州立農事試驗場出版的書籍記載，其起源為1904年臺中廳農會創設之農場。1909年因臺灣地方行政區劃變動，臺中廳農會合併彰化廳農會與苗栗廳農會的一部份，臺中廳農會接手彰化農場，但與原臺中農場於1910年一併廢止，移轉至臺中公園北鄰的新農場，當時已陸續種植水稻、蔬菜、果樹、花卉等作物，至1930年代，臺中公園北鄰農場變更為市營住宅區，場址在今日一中街商圈的範圍內。1915年，臺中廳農會為進行稻育種而設置育種場，即後來臺中州立農事試驗場的北屯庄分場。本文特別介紹臺中廳農會農場關聯的人，包括林獻堂、板垣退助，以及相關的技師：久保隆三、長崎常、磯永吉、末永仁等人在臺中廳農會時期的事蹟。

Taichung District Agricultural Research and Extension Station originated from Taichū Shūritsu Nōji Shikenjō (Taichung Prefecture Agricultural Experimental Station), an institute formed during the period under Japanese rule. Base on publications of Taichū Shūritsu Nōji Shikenjō, the origin was a farm established by Taichū-chō (Taichung Prefecture) farmers' association in 1904. Since the administrative division of Taiwan changed in 1909, Taichū-chō farmers' association combined Shōka-chō (Changhua Prefecture) farmers' association and part of Byoritsu-chō (Miaoli Prefecture) farmers' association. Taichū-chō farmers' association took over Shōka Farm, but the operation of Shōka farm and Taichū Farm were stopped in 1910. The agricultural works then moved to a new location north of Taichū Park. Rice, vegetables, fruit trees and flowers were cultivated at that time. In the 1930's, the farm was re-zoned for residential use. Presently, this area is part of Yizhong Street Market. In 1915, Taichū-chō farmers' association established a breeding station for rice breeding. The breeding station subsequently became Hokuton-shō branch of Taichū Shūritsu Nōji Shikenjō. Furthermore, stories of people related to the Taichū-chō farmers' association's farm were introduced in this study, including Mr. Hsien-Tang Lin, Mr. Itagaki Taisuke, and related technicians: Mr. Kubo Ryuzo, Mr. Nagasaki Tsune, Mr. Iso Eikichi, and Mr. Suenaga Megumu.
