Guo Han-chen, a native (1965.03.11~) of Pingtung City, Pingtung County, is currently the most active and prolific local, Pingtung-born writer in Pingtung County. In 2015, he published Skinned Man, in which he adopted a magical realism narrative approach to create numerous allegories of a man "skinned" layer by layer. We are thus left to wonder why a self-proclaimed writer of "new local literature" employed such a literary technique to write his latest novel? What are the meanings that he wanted to convey behind the numerous allegories used? This study utilized the perspective of alienation (or "foreignization") to analyze Skinned Man. The study comprised an introduction, body, and conclusion. Because of word limit, the body of the paper consisted of a major analysis of the chapters "Walking" and "Skinned Man" as well as a minor analysis of "Devouring Man" and other chapters. The analyses revealed a concept of alienation that differed from that found in Taiwan urban novels written in the 1980s; this alienation of the twenty-first century was yet another "alienation" from that in the twentieth century. This study thus explored on such alienation. This study found that although Guo adopted a literary approach that differed from the realistic approach used in local literature readers had familiarized themselves with, the modern society that he painted remained as "real" as prose and report-based literature.
