The essay explores the inner world of the living subject through the dancer's self-reflection on the mind and the body. Although the moving body does not necessarily have to be contemplated within the premises of cerebral dialectics, yet the role of dance as an art form which elevates body, mind and soul has become increasingly challenged in the modern society where physicality reigns supreme. Dance could be a performing art, a reflection of human emotions, or just a commercial act. The body and mind of the dancer, when faced with the needs and wants of the societal conditions, often experience conflicts with each other. How does the dancer resolve these conflicts? The author chose to undergo the process of philosophical thinking and body-mind training. By taking into account the in-depth deciphering of the moving body in the area of Western philosophy and considering the axiom of serenity reflected in the philosophical thinking of Ya Dance (雅樂舞) in Chinese culture, the author has at last settled the living subject within herself.
