Mobile communication is an alternative technology for positioning other than GPS in many applications. The femtocell is a newly developing technology to improve mobile communication quality beyond 3G systems. The functions of femtocells are designed for easy deployment in either private or public areas. Based on the concept of mobile positioning, this paper presents a preliminary study of indoor positioning using femtocells. The triangulation method and fingerprinting method are adopted to calculate user's positions from receiving multiple signals. Simple algorithms are formulated and implemented for positioning tests in indoor environment to show the function capability of the proposed method. From a complete experiment program, the proposed indoor positioning using femtocell has accomplished with feasible results. Beyond private uses, the femtocell positioning method can fit for most location-based requirements.
