An Empirical Investigation of the Relationship between Population Aging and Economic Growth: Evidence from G-7 Countries

This article adopts a recently-developed Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ADL) test for threshold cointegration, proposed by Li and Lee (2010) to investigate the relationship between the evolution of population aging and economic growth G-7 countries, using annual data over the 1970 to 2010. We find that population aging, investment and economic growth exhibit a nonlinear long-run relationship for the G-7 countries. Several implications of our results are discussed.
