Effects of Planting Date on Growth and Yield of Long-shaped Yam (Dioscorea batatas)

並列摘要

To determine the optimum planting date of long-shaped yam 'Show-Feng', the seed tubers were planted in middle March, April, May and June in 1993, separately. The results showed that the maximum yield 15.0 M.T./ha was obtained as planted in middle April, then 14.6 and 12.2 M.T./ha planted in March and May. The minimum yield 6.3 M.T./ha was found as planted in June. Most of the tubers sprouted in June as planted in middle March, April, and May. As planted in June, the minimum yield was due to the low sprouting rate and the low yield per plant. The experiment was repeated in 1994. The maximum yield 13.0 M.T./ha was also found as planted in middle April, then 12.4 M.T./ha in May. The yields planted in March and June were 4.6 and 2.2 M.T./ha, respectively. According to these results, April is recommended as the optimum planting date for long-shaped yam 'Show-Feng', and planting no later than middle May. The yield would reduced sharply if planted lately in June. The unstable yield, planted in March, was found due to climate.
