Research of Relationship between Shanghai Industrial Structure and Environmental Pollution

Based on the data of Shanghai's industry structure and environmental pollution during 1991‐2011, the regression equation model was established by using the proportion of tertiary industry, the proportion of investment in environmental protection and heavy industry as the independent variable, and using SO_2 emissions, total suspended particulate concentration, exhaust emissions and dust concentration as dependent variables, to research the influence of Shanghai industrial structure on environmental pollution. The results showed that the increase in the proportion of heavy industry is the main reason for environmental pollution; and that the development of the tertiary industry plays an important role in reducing environmental pollution; while environmental investment plays a less significant role in improving the environment. It is believed that improving environmental quality should start from the adjustment of industrial structure, accelerating the development of tertiary industry, actively changing the mode of economic growth, accelerating resource‐saving and environmental friendly industrial development and gradually reducing the national dependence in second industries, especially heavy industries, while actively guide investment in environmental protection, scientific planning, coordinating the layout, to improve environmental performance.
