Kinetics of Leaching Process Using Sulfuric Acid for Sella Uranium Ore Material, South Eastern Desert, Egypt

摘要

The leaching of uranium from Sella uranium ore using sulfuric acid solution has been studied. The effect of different parameters such as leaching time, sulfuric acid concentration, ore particle size, liquid/ solid mass ratio, reaction temperature, mechanical stirring speed and hydrogen peroxide addition were investigated in order to optimize various process parameters for maximizing the recovery of uranium. Uranium dissolution efficiency of 91.5 % was obtained for Sella ore particle size 150- 63 μm after 4 hours contact time leaching using 1.0 M sulfuric acid and liquid/ solid mass ratio, ml/ g of 3 at 40 °C with 400 rpm mechanical stirring speed without any oxidant addition. The kinetic data showed that the leaching process can be described by a shrinking-core model with apparent activation energy equals to 10.13 kJ/mol. The low activation energy supported the findings that the Sella ore leaching rate is controlled by diffusion-controlled process. The experimental results was tested graphically and statistically and found that the above model fits satisfactorily the experimental results.
