Dynamics of a Slider-Crank Wave-Type Wind Turbine

The paper presents the modelling of a mechanism that belongs to a novel class of wind turbines so called "wave-type". This mechanism converts the energy of rotational and translational motion of the wing into electrical energy. The scheme of the mechanism is similar to a classical crank gear but equipped with a wind-receiving wing. Aerodynamic forces transform behaviour of the mechanism. The paper uses asymptotical approaches (the Poincare-Pontryagin method and the Tikhonov theorem), which allows discovering unobvious features of the dynamics. Sufficient conditions of the existence of periodic regimes are derived. In particular it is shown that the system can possess two attracting periodic regimes, switching between them can be organized via changing of the electrical load. Domain of parameters is described where asymptotical approach provides accurate enough estimations of characteristics of periodic regimes. The technique for optimization of parameters according to the criteria of maximum trapped power is introduced.
