Reforming of medical education under COVID-19 pandemic: strategies adopted in a University Hospital in Taiwan

The 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic not only had a huge impact on the global health care system, public health services, social and economic development, but also fundamentally alter the landscape of medical education. Although Taiwan had achieved successful results in limiting the spread of COVID-19 in 2020, but it was unavoidable to face outbreak after April this year. In Kaohsiung Medical University Chung-Ho Memorial Hospital, an important training center for the biggest number of medical trainees in the southern Taiwan, based on the experiences from other countries, innovated teaching strategies were adopted in order to resolve the problems related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Providing a safe environment, many online and virtual methods are used to achieve learning objectives without disruption. What seems certain is that a return to a pre-COVID 19 teaching platform is unlikely, and diversified learning strategy will be there to stay. In the era of the new normal, we will continue to maintain flexibility to ensure the quality of students' learning.
