Reformation of Islamic Etiquette and Ethnic Borders in China since the Seventeenth Century: A Study on the Gangshang District of the Qing Dynasty

摘要


《岡志》記載了岡上地區明末清初伊斯蘭宗教和生活禮儀變革的論辯和鬥爭。以連獨班之爭為代表,經學教育系統出身的經師與清真寺內三掌教反復拉鋸,直到光緒年間才改岡上禮拜寺為獨班。這場曠日持久的鬥爭反映了從17世紀開始的中國伊斯蘭教禮儀改革運動,通過經堂教育的發展、清真寺管理機構的重組,重塑了本土伊斯蘭教的面貌,一定程度上統和了跨地域人群的思想和禮儀,劃定了「在敎」與「反教」、自我與他者的邊界,推動了「回回」成為一個族群。

Gangzhi (《岡志》) records the debates and internal struggles that happened during the Islamic religion and life etiquette reform in the Gangshang district during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. Represented by the event of the struggle of Lianduban 連獨班之爭, the scribes from the Chinese Muslim Theology education system and the three leaders of the mosque三掌教repeatedly competed with each other, and it was not until the Guangxu years that they changed the Gangshang mosque into Duban獨班. That protracted struggle reflects the Islamic etiquette reform movement in China since the seventeenth century. Through the development of traditional Chinese mosque education and the reorganization of the mosque administration system, the reform has reshaped the face of local Islam and unified the thinking and etiquette of cross-regional people to a certain extent. By delineating the boundaries between "religious" 在敎 and "anti-religious" 反教, self and others, it also promoted "Hui" to become an ethnic group.
