油脂之觸媒皂化（一）棉子油
Catalytic Saponification of Oils and Fats. I. Cottonseed Oil
摘要
棉子油中加入酚類爲觸煤，以等當量之NaOH溶液（約10N），在保溫瓶中進行皂化。因絕熱裝置難臻完善，故反應在非完全絕熱狀態中進行。從皂化時間與温度，或皂化時間與皂化百分率曲線上，比较觸媒劑之能力，並檢討影響觸媒作用之各重要因素。

The catalytic activities of phenol, cresylic acids, o-, m-, and p-cresol,α- and β-naphthol, thymol, and p-nitrophenol in accelerating the saponification rate of cottoned oil to near completion were studied. The experimental facts obtained in this work are most satisfactorily explained. by the molecular structure of the various phenols, but surface tension measurements, in many cases, give no agreeable answer in accordance with the interfacial tension theory of saponification.
