The flame test can be performed in an alternative way. Thereby, a metal salt is placed in a refractory plate and a portable, auto-ignited butane burner is used to generate flame. A characteristic, intensively colored, long-lived flame convenient for observation is generated by igniting the metal salt directly in the butane burner. The apparat us is compact and portable, therefore, this alternative way is suitable for flame test demonstration in lecture room.
