高精密無機質譜儀在地球科學及海洋科學研究上的應用

Applications of High Precision Inorganic Mass Spectrometry in Earth Sciences and Oceanography

摘要


熱離子源質譜儀和感應耦合電漿質譜儀是地球及海洋科學相關研究的重要利器之一,近年來已廣泛被應用於探討溫室氣體效應、海水酸化、洋流循環、環境汙染及氣候變遷等攸關人類生存問題。本文將介紹三類高精度質譜儀的基本原理、分析極限及儀器特點等,並舉例說明在自然科學範疇的潛力應用。感應耦合電漿質譜儀可迅速定量自然界樣品的多種微量元素及同位素比值;近期研發的多接收器電漿質譜儀,則結合電漿的高靈敏度、磁場式質量分析器的穩定及多接受器的高精確,已為同位素定年或示蹤研究之最佳工具;熱離子源質譜儀除離子化過程獲得較穩定訊號外,其多接收器功能可同時偵測數個不同質荷比的核種,目前為準確濃度定量及高精度同位素分析的主要儀器。

Thermal ionization mass spectrometry and inductive coupled plasma mass spectrometry are the two most important methods in earth sciences and oceanography researches. Recent applications focus on human-life related issues, including effects of greenhouse gases, ocean acidification, seawater circulation, environmental pollution and global climatic changes. In this paper, we introduce briefly of three types of mass spectrometers to cover their basic principles, analytical limitation and instrumental design, as well as potential application in natural sciences. ICP-MS provides an effective way to determine simultaneously of multi-element concentration and isotopic ratios in natural specimen. MC-ICP-MS takes advantages of the high sensitivity of ICP-MS, the high stability of magnetic sector instrument (e.g., TIMS) and the high precision of multi-collector system and has became one of the best tools for geological dating and chemical tracing researches. TIMS enjoys its high ionization stability and its multi-collector, which can produce the most precise concentration and isotopic determinations.
