熵不是亂度或無序

Entropy is not Disorder, nor Randomness

摘要


熵(entropy)是一個有嚴格定義可以明確計算的廣延性熱力學狀態函數,而亂度或無序是一個沒有明確定義的模糊詞彙。物理化學,生物化學和生物物理等課程的教學中應該摒棄“熵是對亂度的描述"以及“自發熱力學過程對應亂度增加"等誤導性的說法。

Thermodynamic entropy is an extensive state function which is well-defined and can be quantitatively calculated whereas disorder or randomness is an ill-defined, qualitative, vague notion. The instructors of physical chemistry, biochemistry and biophysics should avoid the misleading statements about entropy such as “entropy is the quantitative description of disorder or randomness”, “spontaneous thermodynamic processes correspond to increase of disorder or randomness” etc.
