The increasing research on sexual orientation seems to suggest different fields pay attention and concerns to minorities in Taiwan. However, gayness is not only about sexual orientation, it combines with other components such as culture, race, and beliefs etc., thus makes it more complex. This study was an attempt to explore how a native gay man viewed his gay identity and his strengths and challenges. A semi-structured interview was used for data collection as well as informal chatting and observation before the research was conducted. The results showed that A-Chi (the participant), though under the double pressure of Native and gay, encountered challenges successfully with his academic excellence, positive attitude toward life, authenticity and perseverance, interpersonal intelligence, as well as strong ego strength and sense of humor. His gay identity process has been through feeling differences, identifying, and disclosing and coming-out.
