成功的美國大學語言學習者之社會及心理隔閡度

The Social and Psychological Distance of Successful Language Learners in US Colleges

摘要


對於那些到美國來學語言以為第二語官的學習者而盲,口語能力常常是最難精通的語嘗技巧。本研究闡述第二語言與學習者的高口語嫻熟度有關的心理及社會因素。五位受試者以往曾註冊修習過第二語言課程,且目前皆就讀於加州洛杉磯市的大學,其中一位受試者是大學部學生,另四位則為研究生。研究結果發現,成功語言學習者與心理及社會因素之間有相關性。成功的第二語言學習者。顯示其習得第二語言時,有著較低程度的心理及社會隔閡度。他們往往對目標語言及文化持有積極的態度與行為。建議能再作進一步的研究向不同種族及性別族群收集更多的資料,藉以查證第二語言的習得是否因種族及性別而有其差異性。

Oral proficiency is often the most difficult skill to master for those language learners who come to the United States to learn English as a second language. This study reports on the psychological and social factors that relate to the second language learner's high oral proficiency. The five subjects are second language learners who has been enrolled in second language programs and are currently enrolled in university programs in Los Angeles, California. One students is an undergraduate and the other four are graduate students. A correlation is found between successful language learners and psychological and social factors. Successful second language learners demonstrate a low degree of psychological and social distance in second language acquisition. They tend to have positive attitude and behavior toward the target language and culture. Further studies are recommended to collect additional data from different ethnic and gender groups to see if there is any variance in second language acquisition.
