This study inquires into the renowned early childhood philosopher Friedrich Wilhelm August Frobel (1782-1852). For centuries, Frobel's theory has had impact on several early childhood educators. His concepts were developed under the influences of his personal traits, experiences, and the social context of his time. Analyses of Frobel's writings and related literature are thus done in this study to understand the cores, features, origination, and development of his educational theory. Moreover, comparisons between Frobel and other early childhood philosophers in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries are made for further understanding of Frobel's contribution to the modern early childhood education.
