Safety climate is the intervening variable between organizational and personal factors and safety performance, and the climate is prone to change with the influences from the cause variables. The objective of this study is to investigate the influences of organizational and personal factors on safety climate. First, a valid and reliable safety climate scale was developed. Next, a self-administered questionnaire survey was conducted among employees who frequent the labs within 100 universities and colleges in Taiwan in 2001. The number of respondent was 2014, and response rate was 67.13%. By using multivariate analysis of variance, researchers found that organizational and personal factors had statistically significant effects on safety climate. Yet, there is no enough evidence to prove the practical significance is existent. The organizational factors that influenced safety climate might be related to managerial functions, organization structure, metropolitan phenomenon. And the personal factors that influenced the climate might be related to spatial visualization, career development stages, past experience/attribution errors, behavior modification and organization structure.
