Nursing is primarily a practice discipline, it seeks to understand individuals in all their uniqueness and particularity. Hermeneutic philosophy enables nurses to gain an understanding of the human experience and the nursing phenomenon.In this article, the historical background and philosophical roots, and the implications of hermeneutics inquiry in nursing research are discussed.
