Clinical practice is the final training of becoming a nurse. It is highly stressful. Most of previous studies focus on how to release stress and promote adaptation, but few studies focus on the effect of the extracurricular activities. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to explore the effect of extracurricular activities on the performance of nursing students in clinical practice. Three hundred and thirty senior students were recruitted into this study from a technical university. The results showed that: (1) Ninety-nine percent of nursing students involved in extracurricular activities in this college. Most of them participated in technical club and ministration club. Only 11% of these students participated extracurricular activities outside campus. (2) The major harvest of attending extracurricular activities was learning new skills, broadening eye sight, and fostering interests. (3) Different extracurricular activities had different influences on student nurses' social adjustment. (4) In clinical practice, being cadres in a nursing academy had higher scores in recognition and emotion than those who were not cadres.
