學前機構教師對幼兒學習美語態度之初探研究

摘要

本研究的目的在於探討學前機構教師對美語學習重要性的看法和對幼兒提早學習美語的態度。國內美語教學的起始年齡從國中調整至國小，現在甚至下降至學前教育階段，而學前階段究竟適不適合實施美語教學，長久以來始終有所爭議，但現況上美語課程在幼托機構中實施確已十分普遍。本研究以台灣中部130位現職老師為研究對象，結果顯示：一、多數老師在文化價值觀的選項上呈現會說美語未必比會說中文優越的結果；不過從實用功利價值的觀點來看美語，多數老師都同意美語能力強對於工作、升學、學習他國文化與資訊的獲得有所助益，整體來說同意美語學習是很重要的老師有的%；二、在對學前幼兒學習美語的看法上，55%的老師認為有需要讓幼兒提早學習美語。三、對於任課的美語老師所屬國籍看法，認為以中外籍老師輪流上課最適合；美語師資最理想的專業背景為：幼保或幼教系修習幼兒美語課程合格者。四、日前老師們班上幼兒顯外上美語課的情形很普遍，多數老師對目前班上美語教學現況感到滿意。

The purpose of this study was to investigate preschool teachers' perception of English importance and teachers' attitude to English learning of young children. The age of first-learners had dropped from junior high school level to elementary or even down to preschool level. As a result, many preschools claim to provide bilingual curriculum or English-only teaching environment to young children. Samples of this study were 130 teachers now working at nursery school or kindergarten in Mid- Taiwan. Results showed: 1. Eighty percent of preschool teachers agreed that English learning was important. 2. Fifty-five percent of teachers thought that children should learn English in younger age. 3. Teachers' expected that Taiwanese teachers and foreign teachers take turned in preschool English classes. In teachers' opinion, early childhood education training was critical for English teachers. 4. Many young children participate afterschool English programs. English curriculum in the classes was satisfied by most of preschool teachers'. community.
