This article describes a nursing experience of assisting an elder resident adjusting into a residential facility. This case moved to the nursing facility because of physical impairment and families’ inability to provide care. Due to mal-adaptation to the rigid life pattern and lack of privacy, this case had problems of sleep disturbance, anxiety, low self-esteem, and worsened disease conditions while living in the facility. He was diagnosed with the health problem of "Relocation Stress Syndrome." By establishing the therapeutic interpersonal relationship to elicit the case to express her needs and thoughts, it could subsequently help the case to develop adjustment strategies and support systems to adjust her life in the residential facility.
