舊瓶釀新醅-論李逸濤舊小說中的現代性

Modernity in Li Yi-Tao's Traditional Novels

摘要


日治初期《台灣日日新報》記者李逸濤(1876-1921)的漢文小說,創作於台灣新舊文學消長交替的前夕,其體裁為舊式的文言章回體小說,敘事內容以傳統的俠義故事、新聞事件為主。然而,19世紀末的漢文文學在西學東漸的風潮中,西方著重小說文體的文學觀,也影響了台灣文人對文學意義的重新理解。加上乙未改制之後,日本總督府挾其維新富強後的現代化威力,使得擔任官報記者的李逸濤,透過通俗小說家帶領台人認識世界,走向現代。本文嘗試從李逸濤小說創作的理念談起,找尋影響李逸濤小說觀建構的脈絡,並從其小說中揭櫫當時工業崛起、跨海冒險,以及現代法律等有別於傳統的現代性特徵。

In the early days of Japanese occupation, the novels by Li Yi-Tao, a reporter from "Taiwan Ri Ri Xin Bao", were written between old and new literature in Taiwan. The narrative content used traditional chivalrous stories and news events. In the late 19th century, with western culture spreading to the east, the western literary emphasized novels also affected Taiwanese literature. After 1895, the Japanese took advantage of its modernization power so that Li Yi-Tao, a reporter for the official newspaper, lead Taiwanese through popular novelists to understand the world and move toward modernity. This article attempts to talk about the concept of Li Yi-Tao's novel creation, find the context that influences Li Yi-Tao's novel view, and show his novels the rise of industry, cross-sea adventure, and modern law that are different from traditional modernity.
