The purpose of this study are to develop a tool for monitoring and evaluating the quality of nursing care of hospitalization patients and to develop a systematic and continous program for nursing evaluation, which will improve the quality of nursing care in hospital. The concureent evaluation of nursing quality was performed from March. 1 to April 28 1994, during wich 100 samples were randomly selected from hospitalization patients. The evaluation tool designed by research team, was based on nursing process, The five indicators were assessing patients' needs according to their health problems, formulating the nursing care plan; inplementing the medical orders and nursing interventions; evluating the achievement of the objectives; and following the policies of the hospital . Four nursing experts one statistical expert were asessed the vality instrument. The value of the re Iiabi Iity was. 76 the agreement between two raters were 95%. The rate of compliance for total nursing quality was 58.2%, The rate of complience was 56.3%for indicator 1; 17.2%for indicator 2; 59.3% for indicator 3; 26.43% for indicator 4; 78.1%for indicator 5. There were no significant differences in the quality of nursing care both among the three kinds of wards and 7 wards. The other factors influencing the quality of nursing care were nurse's educational level and martial state. Suggestion on nursing adminstration, clinical nursing, and inservice education were provided which can improve the quality of nursing care.
