Taking the Vice President Chen Cheng's Cultural Relics from 1954 to 1965 in the Collection of Academia Historica, The Practice and Calligraphy of Dedication Culture for Elegiac Words after the World War II

The application of calligraphy dedication was quite popular in some memorial events, including marriages, festivals and funerals. The couplets, plaques, hanging scrolls and slogans of praise and compliment belonged to the category. However, the calligraphy works in plaques and couplets for lamenting death would be burnt for the dead after the funeral. Therefore, there would be difficult to inspect the making process of the dedication culture for elegiac words. On the other hand, the essay explored the left writings in plaques and couplets for lamenting other chiefs and dignitaries after the World War II through the Vice President Chen Cheng's cultural relics in the Collection of Academia Historica. Due to his special role both in Republic of China's administrative and military, the essay took Chen Cheng (1898-1965) as an example in dedication for elegiac words by officials at that time. The calligraphy on plaques and couplets for lamenting other deaths were completed in division of labor by his specialized staffs, including Lee Yu-shu and Wang Chuang-wei. Although these plaques and couplets were signed by Chen Cheng, the contents were created by Lee Yu-shu (1905-1972) and the calligraphy was written by Wang Chuang-wei (1909-1998).
