Current curriculum reform in Taiwan calls for a new look at using community resources. Generally, resource room teachers have greater need for community resources and personnel support in order to make necessary curriculum modifications to meet children's special needs. There is little information on what factors influence teachers' application of community resources to resource room teaching. Therefore, this study investigated whether novice and experienced resource room teachers exhibited differences in competencies to use community resources. The barriers to implementing community resources were also explored between experienced and novice resource room teachers. Participants included 215 resource room teachers from Tauyuan county, Hsinchu city and county, and Miaoli county. The instrument was a questionnaire developed by the researcher. The results appeared that participants' competencies and frequencies of use of community resources were impacted by teaching experience, while their needs and barriers were not impacted by time. Some educational implications derived from this study were pointed out by the researcher.
