Museums worldwide have been trying to collect stories and information about critical events and everyday life for future generations, i.e., contemporary collecting. Besides the relatively low-costs relatively low to obtain an object now for contemporary collecting, museums could expand their collections, bring them up to date, and make collecting more engaging and accessible. Although the importance of contemporary collecting has been highly regarded in practice and academia, there are few studies regarding contemporary collecting in the Taiwanese community. This article reviewed contemporary collecting literature and illustrated the nature and meaning of contemporary collecting before exploring its types, challenges, and solutions. Finally, the author suggested implementing contemporary collecting for museums in Taiwan.
