Development of Film Education in Taiwan after WWII

Film education in Taiwan started during the period of Japanese Rule; the management policy of Government House followed the National Policy of Films of Japan, and Taiwan was seen as a place to propagandize imperialism through film. After the war, a series of ideological education movements began in coordination with Chinese Culture Revitalization in the 1960s in Taiwan, and the policy of educational technology in regard to films was firmly established. This study aims to explore the concept and implementation process of educational technology. Historical data were collected from the Archives of the Ministry of Education and Cultural Communication Association of Kuomintang (Chinese Nationalist Party) to examine the film market in Taiwan during the governance of the Kuomintang. Four facets are examined: intention, cultural policy, film making/screening strategy and reward/control, in order to clarify the correlation between cultural policy and films, and the influence of the former on the latter.
