中國中新世古猿個體大小及性別兩態的推估方法

摘要


Allometric relationships of body size have never escaped scholar's interest. Body size has been correlated to many life history variables, life span and metabolic cost of locomotion. By using Gingerich's equation and all available maxillary and mandibular tooth measurements of Chinese Miocene hominoids, the purpose of this paper is to estimate their body weights and compare them with the extant apes. Such systematic comparisons shed light on the possible ecological settings of fossil Miocene hominoids and even their locomotor habits.

生物個體的異速生長關係一直是學者們所關注的重點。生物的個體大小已被証實與生命史的變項、壽命及運動的新陳代謝相關。本文研究的目的是利用Gingerich推出的公式將中國新世古猿的上下顎牙齒測值換算再與現生猿類相比之後來推估其個體大小。這種有系統的比較研究法對中新世古猿的生態環境及其運動習性有不少新的啟示。
