This article is to review James Barr's The Concept of Biblical Theology: From an Old Testament Perspective, with the orientation of its inspiration for biblical studies in the Chinese context. In spiring is his positioning of Biblical theology as a branch of scholarship between Systematic theology an d Biblical studies, always interacting with other disciplines in learning and never free from controversy, crisis and the danger of marginalization. His argument of drawing inspiration from other humanities into the construction of Biblical theology is important as well. His ecumenical orientation in Biblical theology shall be also highly recommended. The background of Chinese Biblical Studies, namely ecumenical, educational and religious diversified, can learn much from Barr's analysis of Biblical Theology.
