In this article, the author discusses Augustine's doctrine of Image within his whole philosophical theology. The article includes three parts: first, what Augustine said about Christ as God's substantial "true image"; second, the achievements and defects of previous studies on Augustine's doctrine of Image, especially that of Eugene Portalie, some new insights and important suggestions are provided; third, three dimensions of Augustine's concept of Image, namely that of the rational, the spiritual and the social images. All of them are investigated in terms of Augustine's theology, especially his theory of Illumination, Freedom and Grace.
