The notion "God of the gap s" has been criticized by atheists, philosophers, scientists, and even Christian scholars. The thesis statement of this article is that viewing God as the ultimate answer does not necessarily degrade God to the status of the "God of the gaps", because no matter whether there is a natural explanation to matters in nature, the origin of all matters and events could be traced back to God. In addition, Newton and his followers viewed God as the ultimate answer to all natural phenomena, but they did not appeal to ignorance. On the contrary, their scientific accomplishments are stunningly successful. Critics also charge that since scientific progress has filled many gaps that used to be filled by God, anti-methodological naturalism and the intelligent design argument are unnecessary. This article will evaluate the appropriateness of this argument.
